Herding/Working/Performance:
TOSS is an 18-month old neutered male
Border Collie, available for adoption to the right herding and agility
home. Toss is ABCA-registered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, is
heartworm, Lyme and erlichia negative and on monthly Interceptor.
Preliminary x-rays under sedation show excellent hips and knees.
Toss is an extremely high energy Border
Collie who needs a lot of special attention and one-on-one structured
training. He has evaluated well for agility potential and is
food-motivated. He has been in training almost daily on sheep for a
month and has good balance, a reliable stop and a reliable recall,
goes around well and stays off nicely.

He has enormous potential for herding sheep and cattle. He is such a busy dog that he will need daily interactive structure and training with an EXPERIENCED owner who has regular access to herding facilities and also can do obedience and agility in between herding sessions if not herding on a daily basis. Toss has reasonably good house manners, is crate-trained, kennels well and rides well in a vehicle. He is okay with other dogs as long as he is supervised so he can be reminded not to herd and nip other dogs. If not supervised, he should not be left outside loose with a group of running dogs. This tends to overstimulate him and he forgets his manners easily. He also needs supervision around cats. His ideal home would be an environment where there are not too many other dogs so that he can be the focus of his owner's attention and receive the structure, training and activity level that he needs. He is very outgoing, social and is excellent around children.
